OUTFIT TIPS
- Select a Color Palette that compliments the room and location that you will display your portrait art.
- Avoid busy patterns such as plaids, bold stripes and distracting patterns. Often times adding a pattern (like a checkered plaid shirt or floral design) can be good and adds dimension to your outfit selection, but avoid too bold of patterns or mixing patterns, as this will look distracting and will be too busy when mixed together. You may be able to get away with a couple of patterns if there are lots of people in the image or if the differing patterns are fairly subtle, but generally you want to avoid adding multiple patterns. Simple is usually better when it comes to selecting outfits and solid colors ALWAYS photograph well and will create a timeless and classic look for your portraits.
- Darker colors will appear more slimming in a portrait, and long sleeves and bottoms are always recommended, as the attention will go towards the faces of everyone in the portrait vs. extra body skin.
- Layering clothing with cardigans, sweaters and jackets, and adding accessories such as jewelry, hats and scarves are a great way of tying your entire color palette in one outfit.
- Coordinate everyone’s outfits altogether. When we photograph families, we will create a variety of images of your entire family, as well as all the fun, candid moments of everyone playing and laughing together. We always recommend trying to represent your entire color palette in everyone’s outfits so that when we photograph your smaller groups, along with the entire family, everyone remains coordinated and you still look great together, no matter what combination pose we are creating.
